5 Tips on Setting Boundaries (& Why It's Important!)
Hope everyone had an amazing four day week. I wasn’t really huge on Valentine’s Day (huge shocker, huh!), but I knew I had to take advantage of the long weekend last weekend, so off we went to Maine!
I primarily chose Kennebunkport to visit bc word on the street is, it’s New England’s most romantic town so you know I had to fit the theme here 😉 but really though, Kennebunkport just seemed like the best place to visit that wasn’t too far for a weekend… plus in February, they PAINT THE TOWN RED.
All February long, they have events at different venues to celebrate the month of love. From wine tastings to sushi demonstrations and hearts/red tag specials everywhere, I definitely felt the love. I didn’t partake in any of the special events, but the decorations were enough to keep me in awe. Here’s a quick recap, should you ever decide to take a trip there yourself!
Kennebunk/Kennebunkport:
Originally, we had wanted to try out Mabel’s Lobster Claw from all of the recommendations we got, but they were closed for renovations. We decided to check out Alisson’s Restaurant and the food was amazing. Honestly wherever you go in Maine, you’ll find the best seafood. We had some of the best lobster rolls ever! Alisson has different variations of a lobster roll, but I chose the traditional one bc I stick to what I know… LOL.
For dinner, we went to Old Vines Wine Bar for some small plates, and wow — the vibes were on point. This wine bar is set in a barn-like setting with the cutest red hearts decorations. I definitely felt all the romance in there! We shared herb roasted cod with mashed cauliflower, pecorino romano, and beet crisps along with some patatas bravas (spicy roasted potatoes, pea tendrils, paprika aioli). And of course for dessert, we ordered a classic cinnamon churro to share as well!
On our last night there, we went to Salt & Honey for more small plates and ordered some fish tacos and clam chowder. Salt & Honey also gave off romantic vibes, and the server was SO nice and friendly. Everyone in Kennebunkport tbh were super friendly and cordial, and I could not be more grateful!
We also wanted to check out Boulangerie bakery, but we found this place on Sunday after noon and they close at noon and on Mondays, so boohoo 🙁
Portland:
In Portland, we went to Little Tap House where I (again) ordered a lobster roll. I guess you could say I’ll always go for lobster every time I see it on the menu 🙂
Kennebunk/Kennebunkport:
Again, Alisson’s Restaurant had some of the best drink varieties. I’ve always been a fan of Alligash, so when I saw their “I Believe in Love” beer, I knew I had to order. I guess you could say I was really into the theme here 🙂
Another favorite place of ours was the Boathouse Waterfront Hotel. We ordered some rosé and enjoyed the water views… from the inside. I really appreciated their efforts in glamming up the place with a ton of red and hearts though bc it really set the ambiance. I definitely recommend this place if you’re looking for a cute place to stay as well. They just didn’t have availability for us since it was a long/Valentine weekend! We stayed at Port Inn Kennebunk, which was a simple yet chic boutique hotel just a few minutes away from the port. It was a beautiful experience, and I couldn’t say no to free breakfast!
Old Vines Wine Bar also had a plethora of drink options. I got a classic Pinot Noir, which was very fitting especially with all the wine decor!
Portland:
With the abundance of breweries in Portland, I proposed to check out Urban Farm Fermentory so I could get kombucha 🙂 We ordered a flight of beer, mead, cider, kombucha, and jun! They also had the most hipster vibes in there with a Community Engagement Hub filled with couches and games for people to socialize. I definitely felt like I was back home in LA (Silverlake!) and enjoyed our visit there 100%.
Kennebunk/Kennebunkport:
I wished we explored more during the day, but it was too cold to do a lot of cute fun exploring. Nonetheless, the places we visited were pretty sights! Anywhere in Kennebunk/Kennebunkport was beautiful really. During our night drives, red lights lit up everywhere which added to our experience. You know how cities/towns take time to put up holiday decorations? It was essentially the same thing but just red everywhere! There were also cute stores with unique gifting ideas, so be sure to check those out on the main strip by the water!
Portland:
I didn’t get to explore much of Portland since we spent a lot of time at Urban Farm, but we did manage to go to Cape Elizabeth for some lighthouse views. It was FREEZING cold, so we didn’t stay long but I still enjoyed it!
Anyway, that was all we did during our 2 day stay! We ate, enjoyed good vibes, and amazing company — which was really the highlight of this trip. I heard Kennebunkport is an amazing summer destination, so be sure to add this to your travel plans this summer and plz do share YOUR recommendations when you go 🙂 Happy travels!!
