Hi I'm Shazie, a mindset + self-love coach ♥ I'm a West Coast-turned-East Coast girl, so naturally I'm conflicted between Dunkin vs Starbs. Thank you for stopping by, and I hope you stick around♥
5 Tips on Setting Boundaries (& Why It's Important!)
Hello hello! I am so excited to be sharing one of my gal pals here in Boston for a quick chit-chat! Kat and I met at a Galentine’s Day blogging event in February back when life was simple + not distanced… HA, jk but we immediately hit it off! She’s one of the most genuine people I’ve ever met and I live for her hype on my comments! Can’t wait to introduce her to you all <3
Tell us who you are and a little about your background!
Hey everyone, I’m Kat! I am originally from Canada, but have also lived in CA, NJ, NC and MA. I am currently working as a Program Coordinator II in the Genetics Department at Boston Children’s Hospital. I am also the Marketing Director on the board of BARC, which is an organization dedicated to empowering and supporting animal rescue organizations in an effort to help them reach their highest potential.
What inspired you to get into the blogging space?
I have always loved fashion! From a young age I loved playing dress up and drawing, which evolved into learning how to do fashion sketches. I attended fashion school for a year at FIDM, but when I decided the school wasn’t for me, I switched schools and majors.
I ended up getting my BA in Graphic Design and have had a career in design, marketing and program coordinating. However, I have never lost my “passion for fashion.” I had always thought about starting a blog, but made excuses as to why I shouldn’t. I always thought “who cares what I have to say?” and “I’m not thin enough”
But finally about a year and a half ago I decided to go for it, and I’m so glad I did! I love that I can share my style and fashion tips, and also inspire other women to be confident in their own skin.
What does your morning routine look like?
Hmm…well during quarantine it has looked A LOT different LOL! But typically I wake up, check my phone, get up and make coffee. Then I do my everyday hair and makeup, which usually takes about 20-30 mins. Pretty simple! On the weekends I like to sleep in, then I typically get a little more dolled up.
What is something that most people don’t know about you?
I have had to overcome a lot of challenging situations in my life. I am not sure I will go into my life story BUT I will say my journey has led me to make some serious lifestyle choices. I gave up drinking about 2.5 years ago, which has been very challenging but the best decision I’ve ever made!
How do you balance work, relationships, blogging, etc?
I LOVE organizing and planning, so I have a daily planner that I keep track of everything in. I have to admit sometimes I do get overwhelmed with such a busy schedule, but I prefer being busy over being bored. If I start to feel overwhelmed, I have learned to listen to myself and maybe sit out on an event or postpone with a friend to take time for myself.
Who are your biggest influences? Who or what inspired you to do what you’re doing now?
I really look up to women who have had struggled and don’t let it hold them back from succeeding. Oprah is someone I’ve always looked up to for that reason! I also really look up to Demi Lovato for how open and candid she is about her struggles, and I also can relate to her in several ways.
As far as fashion influences, I love Reese Witherspoon, Blake Lively and Kate Middleton’s style. I am really drawn to classic, feminine style. But I also love mixing up my style and dressing on the edgier side from time to time. That’s what’s so fun about fashion, you can be whoever you want!
Lastly, where can everyone find you?
Thank you so much Kat for this lovely Q+A. I’ve enjoyed getting to know her, and I hope you did too! Be sure to check out her stylish looks on Instagram!
