5 Tips on Setting Boundaries (& Why It's Important!)
Happy Tuesday everyone!
Hope everyone’s enjoying their week so far. I currently have a cup of skinny coffee in one hand binge watching Hart of Dixie for the second time (I love country music, so you know… it’s fitting) but more importantly, I’m recovering over my laparoscopic myomectomy to remove my fibroids. It’s currently Day 6 and I’m doing quite alright.
I turned 28 on the 7th and like always, I do an annual birthday reflection. Read last year’s here.
TBH at 28, I thought I’d be married by now. These plans were obviously made when I was about 16. You know when your long-term plans were a 10 year plan and now that you’re in your late twenties, you realized those plans are currently NOW. Time seriously flies.
I’ve always liked how my birthday aligns with the calendar new year as it gives me the chance to reflect simultaneously.
Here are a few takeaways from last year and what I aspire to bring forward in the new year:
Anyway, my surgery went well! My mom, Brian, and I basically spent 12 hours at MGH, so that was exhausting. I just remember going in the operating room at 2:45pm and then waking up at 8:30pm wondering what just happened. It was a big blur! I was happy to have my mom fly here from Los Angeles for my birthday and to take care of me for my surgery (even though I wished she could’ve stayed longer).
All I truly wanted for my birthday was good health, and while I’m recovering still, I am happy to live life sort of bereft of fibroids… for now. Fibroids affected me in ways I don’t wish on anyone. I’m still a bit nervous post-surgery, but I already feel better.
It was my first surgery, so I got an idea of what recovery would be like by word of mouth. I know walking outside for fresh air and to get some movement in is important to me. It’s still a struggle to sleep, shower, sneeze, cough, and laugh without hurting, but as days pass, it truly does get easier.
I wanted to encourage anyone in the same boat right now to take it easy. It has been difficult for me to stay stationary when I’ve always considered myself pretty active, but I know that the simple act of moving is good enough for me. I am grateful for my body for enduring all that it has so far, and I want to honor it by giving it the fuel and nutrients it deserves.
And not just physically. I’m trying to work on my mental energy as well. Can’t believe that it is only the third week of the year, and I already have a ton to share LOL. Better to start the year a year older and healthier, right? 😛 It’s a struggle to keep my focus on the screen or a book, so I do have to make this post a bit short. I promise to make it up on my next post.
I wanted to post both photos on here to show that most of the time, we post our “highlight reel,” so I thought I could be a bit more transparent on all angles of my life… to show you that this is real life. It’s not always so glam, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Hope everyone’s year is off to a great start! Thank you for letting me just type my little fingers away 🙂
