5 Tips on Setting Boundaries (& Why It's Important!)
So who likes working out? *raises hand* Who likes working out every single day? *raises hand again*
JK. Okay, who am I kidding? I don’t ALWAYS feel like working out. In fact, sometimes I literally have to give myself a full-on pep talk prior to going to the gym. When the pep talk doesn’t work, that’s when I listen to my body and give it a rest. I don’t “give it a rest” every week, but there comes a time where I’m just exhausted mentally and spiritually that I need all the mental space I can get.
But when I’m just lazy AF to get my butt to the gym, I put my big girl hat on and simply GO.
So, how do you work out when you least feel like it? Here are some things I usually do –
I cannot stress this enough! To be transparent, my least favorite muscle group is actually LEGS. Contrary to society’s beliefs, I can’t stand working out legs. You know how there is that one person who works out legs all the time because well, #legsandglutesarelife? Nope. Not me. So, I usually start off my week working out legs that way I feel like I’ve conquered! Besides, it gives your body ample time to rest for Glute Day a couple days later. (I try to do Glute Isolation and then use Leg Day to focus on hammies, quads, calves, thighs).
I absolutely love Spotify, but it wasn’t until recently where I started making my own playlists. I’ve always listened to other curated playlists (ie: Beast Mode, Ven Bailalo Reggaeton Remix *shrug*), which I can absolutely vouch for! I use those playlists for inspo, and do a ton of mix-and-match for my workout. I also make sure my playlist is at least the duration of my workout that day, so it makes things exciting.
This is clearly a given, but I’m going to suggest it anyway. I find myself more motivated when I mix things up. Once I feel like I’ve hit a plateau at the gym, I switch up my regular lifting routine for HIIT, strength training classes, hiking, spin, etc. This mix keeps your body pumped and going!
Why not create a TREAT jar and give yourself a dollar for every time you work out? It may sound ridiculous, but think about it, if you work out 6x a week, that is an extra $6 by the end of the week. Treat yourself with that TREAT money to some vegan ice cream. Your body will love you for it, trust meeee.
I always try to make working out fun because that’s the whole point, isn’t it? The whole idea of working out is well, it is basically playtime. I mean, setting aside our intentions to improving our body image, we sometimes overlook our mental and spiritual health as well. Working out is a BEAUTIFUL thing. You are working your temple by MOVING, so why not make it fun and enjoyable? I hear the outcomes are much better that way too 😉
