5 Tips on Setting Boundaries (& Why It's Important!)
Hi friends!
Hope everyone is doing amazing! I know this is such a WHAT topic, but I feel like it should be addressed? Throughout our lives, we’ve always made friends with the people around us in school or work… but what about when we get older?
How do you make friends when you’re no longer bonding over O-CHEM structures and cramming over exams? If you’re no longer in school, this could potentially be a problem. Here are some of my tips and tricks on how to make friends as an adult –
If given the opportunity to fully rest and invest time in yourself, try getting out there. Say yes to invitations where you’re most likely going to be surrounded with a new group of people such as meeting everybody else’s +1s.
When I first moved to Boston, I remember being super shy. I was lucky enough to have moved for grad school, which allowed me to meet some of my closest friends to date, but I also ventured out further. I ended up signing up for a 5K alone during Thanksgiving, which basically forced me to socialize with others… while breaking in a sweat LOL.
I am a part of so many MeetUp and Facebook groups! From The Skinny Confidential Facebook Group to Girlcrush Collective, I usually just search topics in the search bar and add groups I would find interesting. Sometimes within these groups, there would be subgroups. For instance, there is a TSC New England group which has really helped me out with my recent move to Boston.
I personally literally downloaded this YESTERDAY and heard it works wonders! I mean, it’s basically matchmaking but for friends. I love it already!
This probably aligns with what I’ve already mentioned before, but I love love love going places alone. Sure, it can be hard to take cute pics (LOL), but for the most part, going to events alone for example has led me to meet some of my current closest friends (The February Fox, Rachel Katz, Serena Sun, etc).
You don’t have to go anywhere fancy alone, but something as simple as a workout class would suffice (as seen pictured!) I’ve always had a habit of going places alone for “me time,” so this has worked to my advantage.
Hope these tips helped!! How do you make friends as an adult? Comment down below some of your thoughts! xx
P.S: If you’re in the Boston area, I highly recommend checking out Barre Groove. I took a POM GROOVE class which combines dance with poms! It took me back to my cheer days in high school!
