5 Tips on Setting Boundaries (& Why It's Important!)
Hey loves!
Happy end of January! I know I know, it felt like FOREVER, didn’t it?
I guess my birthday month is officially over?
LOL.
So anyway, some of you may know, I currently work as a PT Research Assistant at BMC for Community Engagement (CE). I was fortunate enough to attend a CE workshop last week as we trained early researchers on how to improve their communication with the community as often times, science jargon can serve as a hindrance in understanding what it is that researchers do.
During this workshop, we had 2 minutes to introduce ourselves to our partner using simple “I AM” statements. For example, I am a woman. I am a daughter. I am a friend.
Easier said than done.
When it was my turn, I realized I hardly use “I am” statements… in such a positive way? I mean, let’s be real. While I do try to exude positivity in my everyday life, I do tend to let it slip sometimes and say “I am tired. I am stressed.”
You get the gist.
So, my challenge for you is this… Let’s make I AM statements positive.
The above statements are simple yet we hardly ever incorporate them into our daily routine. When was the last time you went around saying I AM GREAT? I AM A WARRIOR? I AM POWERFUL?
Saying it out loud may sound a little outrageous, but hey – what is life without some awkward moments?
Saying them out loud not only switches your mindset; it also shifts a paradigm in your universe. This doesn’t only apply to those who use crystals or sages for positive vibes.
This is really the ultimate key. Just earlier this week at work, I wrote on a post-it: “I am in love with life. I am powerful.”
Seeing that bright pink post-it in my cubicle has really helped me out especially when I begin feeling my mood taking a dull turn.
I’m not saying it’s easy or even possible to be 100% chipper all the time. In fact, it’s not natural… however, I do believe in positive words of affirmation.
Relying on others to feed us those words isn’t 100% guaranteed. And we shouldn’t really be waiting on others to fill that void. While I depend on others for support, I also believe in self-empowerment.
I believe in rewarding myself with positive affirmations each day. Even throughout those days lacking abundance or happiness, I know one little “I AM” statement that can surely outweigh whatever life has decided to throw my way.
So, let’s start this together – shall we? Let’s start each morning, afternoon, or night with something positive to say about ourselves.
Yes, it’s okay to admit you’re tired or feel defeated, it’s okay to feel imbalanced, but it doesn’t hurt to throw in a little sparkle to alleviate some of that negative energy.
It’s as simple as saying it out loud or putting post-its around your cubicle, your mirror, etc.
Be true and be you. (I created the above image as a PRINTABLE for you to have on your vision board)
